New Haven

Welcome to New Haven

After three months in California, some time off spent with family & friends, and a cross-country road trip from west to east, we have finally made it to our second location!

Along the final leg of our drive, we made a stop in Cleveland, OH where we got a solid night of sleep and a little rock and roll history. All in all, we made it from St. Louis to New Haven in two days.

New Haven, Connecticut is probably most famously known as the home of Yale University and here I will be working at Yale-New Haven Hospital. The city itself has a lot of East Coast charm and good food, especially “apizza” (as it is famously called here).

Here, we got pretty lucky and set up our own housing as opposed to taking the housing that my company would have provided. For the next three months we are subleasing an apartment in a really neat part of the city. There are farmers markets every Saturday in the park nearby and its an easy walk to all parts of the city! We were warmly welcomed by an array of cherry blossoms and flowers sprouting everywhere.

One huge draw to this location and the east coast in general is how close we are to so many potential trips and getaways. We’ll likely be partaking in our fair share of adventures in the next few months and are excited to see parts of the country that we never imagined visiting.

Below are some photos we took in our first few days in New Haven!

Work Hard // Play Hard

So far this has been a place for us to share some fun trips and the perks of travel nursing but I thought it was about time to share a little bit about the reality behind all the fun.

The first week of January started my first travel assignment in Madera, CA at Central Valley Children’s Hospital. I am working on a respiratory unit but I also get floated to other units such as the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and the general medical unit. As any other pediatric nurse would tell you this time of year – work has been crazy busy. Especially on an all respiratory unit with some really sick kiddos, us nurses are really kept on our toes! It has been quite an experience learning an entire new charting system as well as new procedures at a different hospital but that is all part of the experience!

While I am spending my nights at the hospital, Tyler is working hard day in and day out, keeping all his clients happy with designing and developing some great sites. Just recently he has obtained a LLC for his business called Creative Nest. This is a really big step for expanding his brand and I’m excited to see where this takes him!

One month has definitely gone by fast and with only two months to go in this location we are trying to see all we can and enjoy what California has to offer.

Our mentality since starting this new adventure, has really been work hard and play hard so until the next adventure…

From the Road

December Wrap-Up

It’s been a whirlwind of a month full of family, friends, car rides and spare bedrooms. We’ve been blessed with some amazing people in our lives and thankfully we got to see many of them before we kick off our first travel assignment.

Our month itinerary looked like this: San Francisco – St. Louis – Minneapolis – Northern Minnesota – Minneapolis – Northern Wisconsin – Appleton, WI – Milwaukee – St. Louis and now we’re on the flight back to San Francisco.

Here is a fun little map that Tyler designed to show our travels over this past month.

A little nervous and excited on what lies ahead, we are comforted in having each other on this adventure! Thanks for checking in with us, wishing everyone a very Happy New Year!
